A Day At The Museum

One day, Tony and Angela decided to spend the day at the Museum. They caught the tram early in the morning. The tram was jam packed with people going to work. Because they were just eight and ten, they managed to squeeze in between a couple of people in suits.
When they arrived at the Museum, they discovered that they needed an adult to buy tickets for them. They crept into the cloak room and took a long black coat. Angela climbed carefully onto Tony’s shoulders and they put the coat on. Luckily there was some money in the coat pocket. One on top of the other Angela and Tony managed to bluff their way past the front desk and into the Museum.
They quickly dropped the coat, but a security guard stopped to speak to them. “Where are your parents?” he asked Angela and Tony.
They both pointed past him saying “Over there!”
As the guard turned to look, Angela and Tony ran through the nearest door…….

A win for B.W.S.P.S at the Calabria Club 20/08/07

On Wednesday the 15th of August a specially selected soccer team from B.S.W.P.S made the journey to the Calabria Club in Brunswick to play Spensley St. PS (Clifton Hill) in a game of soccer.
The Calabria Club had just had their soccer ground handed back after it was used for the Commonwealth games.
The kick-off  was 10:30; it went for two minutes then stopped because the media wanted to take some photos. After the interruption the game continued with B.S.W.P.S going on to win 7 – 2, a definitive win.
Afterwards there were chips, crisps, desserty things and soft drinks. By the time we got back to school I think we realised we had too many chips!

Congratulations to B.S.W.P.S. A great morning.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Declan, Mallory, Nathan and Kushla went to Apollo Parkways P.S, near Eltham North for one day. They learned how to make movies, (including how the rule of thirds helps the shot look more interesting). They used Apple Mac’s with i-movie to edit and process movies.

They went back to school and made a movie with the school’s digital video camera. The subject was,  “The Red Ball”. They have to send it back to Apollo Parkways. It will be sent back with all the other schools’ movies on one DVD.

Weird Dress Day - 10/05/07

This week SRC held a Weird Dress Day to raise money for our sister school in East Timor. The students, (and some teachers), put in a huge effort with their crazy outfits, hair-dos, make up and mismatched shoes! Because of the effort, the school was able to raise $286.40 to help buy Namolesu School some much needed sports and music equipment. Well done everyone!

Zone Cross Country 30/05/07

On Wednesday 23rd May, 12 of the grade 3 to 6s went to the North Western Zone Cross Country Championships at Brimbank Park .
Shortly after we arrived Rita raced in the 9/10 year girls. She did very well and came 33rd . Then in the next race, the 9/10 year boys, Josh raced very well and came 33rd and David gave it everything and came 34th.
Shortly after Esther and Madeleine raced in the 11year old girls. Esther did very well and came 10th and Madeleine tried her best but had to pull out because of injury. Straight after that, Joey, Nathan and Dylan raced in the 11 year boys. They all did well. Nathan came 10th, Joey 18th and Dylan came 26th.
Then the second last race, the 12 /13 year girls, Isabella raced brilliantly and came 8th.
The last race of the day was the12/13 year boys. Wilbur, Oliver and Adam all raced well. Adam came 23rd,  Oliver 24th and Wilbur came 26th.
We look forward to seeing Victoria and Dinny, our 9 year old stars who were too young to make it into zone, racing next year.

Cross Country Report - 23/05/07

On Friday the 18th May, grades 3-6 had the cross country district races. The races were held at Harold Stevens Reserve.
Despite the random showers, Brunswick South West had the most wins overall.
Unfortunately, even though Dinny (1st, 9-10 boys) and Victoria (2nd, 9-10 girls) made a huge effort finishing first, they were too young to get into cross country zone, the next step up. David, Josh and Rita did qualify in this age group.
Luckily we had lots of other competitors who got a place to cheer us up. In 11 yr old boys, Nathan took the lead coming in at 1st place, closely followed by Joey at 2nd, Dylan came in at 4th.
In 11 yr old girls, Esther came in at 1st place, and Madeline came 6th.
In 12-13 yr old boys, Wilbur came 2nd, followed by Ollie at 3rd and Adam at 4th.
In 12 yr old girls, Isabella came first with a fantastic sprint using up the last of her energy.

The cross country zone will be held on Wednesday 23rd May (today). Good luck to all our great runners.

Polyglot Puppets Theater - 10/05/07

Twenty-eight grade 3/4 students were lucky enough to attend a Puppet Making Workshop at the Cromwell Theatre in South Yarra on Monday 7th May 2007. The students were provided with materials to create their own shadow puppets. Each of the groups got to perform their play to the rest of the group. Ideas such as: ghost town, flying carpet, circus and underwater treasure chest were included in their plays.
We were lucky enough to have been invited to attend, (Many thanks to Sandra Ayache), and it was another great opportunity to celebrate learning during Victoria’s Education Week celebrations!
Thanks to all the students participating with such enthusiasm, as well as Minnie, our parent helper on the day!

CAMP GUNDIWINDI RECOUNT 2007

On the 26th February 2007, the Grade 5/6’s went by bus to Gundiwindi Lodge for 3 days for school camp.
We all had lollies on the bus even though we weren’t supposed to. On the bus there was a toilet but it was locked. We were all really tired once we got to Gundiwindi but it was still exciting. When we got there we met the camp coordinator, Tracy, and she gave us a speech. There was a dog called Maggie.

The activities were archery, ropes course, cubby building, flying fox, yabbying and sensory trail. My favourite was archery. I hit a balloon.

For dinner the first night we had fish and chips. After that I played rugby. It was really fun. Then we watched, Wayne’s World. It was funny but we were all too tired to enjoy it. We didn’t sleep much that night.

The next morning we had spaghetti on toast for breakfast. Then we had free time, then cubby building, followed by flying fox. Next was hamburgers for lunch.
After lunch I had yabbying, then sensory trail. After that it was free time and  I played rugby and tug-o-war. We had a night walk. I lost my torch. The next morning I had duty group. Tara held my nose to wake me up and then told me I had duty group in 5 minutes. We had scrambled eggs for breakfast. Rachael found my torch.

On the last day we went to Healesville Sanctuary. We patted a possum, a snake, a frog and then a Tawny Frogmouth. We also saw The Birds of Prey Show. Then we had lunch and left. On the bus home Gronya spilled chips and got in trouble. When we got back we were all really tired. It was a fun camp.

3/4 Students Return from Camp Rumbug!

Children from the grade 3/ 4 area recently returned from a trip to Camp Rumbug. Students enjoyed a variety of activities including a giant swing, beach activities, initiative challenges, rock pooling and campfire stories! The weather was kind and apart from the city gridlock on the return, a wonderful time was had.
